Although progress has been made, it’s going very slowly. In the meanwhile the Steelworkers working with Unite as part of Workers Uniting are running a strong global campaign. This has included multiple delegations of Steelworkers coming to the UK to rally at investor events, meet with politicians and other activities.

Recently a delegation of Steelworkers including Vale striker Bill Belowos participated in the Unite Policy Conference in Manchester. Unite participants in the conference showed tremendous support and renewed their commitment to ensure this struggle results in a Workers Uniting victory!

USW Vale strikeBackground:

The Canadian workers at Vale-Inco have done everything they could to avoid a strike at the mining company.

The management is demanding that the workers accept the company’s demands for dramatic long-term restructuring and cuts to how staff are paid.

The recent negotiations has been nothing like the past negotiations with Inco. Vale, the new owner who currently is a massively profitable multinational from Brazil and backed by Wall St money, has chosen to use the current economic conditions as simply an excuse to extract deep long-term cuts with little regard for maintaining the family incomes that USW Vale strikesustain the community in Sudbury, Canada.

Please show your solidarity with the workers in Vale Inco - support the Workers Uniting campaign for a FAIR DEAL NOW!
