Statement on the renewed Peace agreement between the FARC and Colombian Government

Agreed by the second Workers Uniting congress Washington, 14– 15 November, 2016

Workers Uniting representing 2.5 million workers in the United States, Canada, UK and Ireland, welcomes the new peace agreement struck between the FARC and the Colombian government.

A negotiated peace agreement that offers a chance of real political participation and democratic change is the only way forward for Colombian society.

Workers Uniting has always supported the peace process and will continue to do so in any way we can. We were deeply disappointed when the original agreement was not accepted by a wafer thin margin of the electorate.

We call on the Colombian government to urgently implement this new agreement and on our own governments to support and assist this process in every way possible.

In the meantime we call on all parties to continue to respect the cease fire and work tirelessly for the peaceful solution that all Colombians so desperately need.
