Unite, USW Youth Uniting

On November 27, 2012 the United Steelworkers Next Generation’s John Paul Smith connected with the Unite the Union Youth Committee via Skype to discuss strategy on how the two groups could work together further through Workers Uniting.

The connection took place during the Unite the Union Youth Committee National Young Members Training.

The US election cycle as well as the fight against global austerity measures were among the topics discussed.  Unite members asked about success in recruitment in the broad ranging sectors of the USW and shared stories of success in Europe.  Also discussed was the different demographics of the youth movement within the unions.

The groups vowed to work together to build a global youth labor movement.
